Khalid Chandio Research Fellow

Mr. Khalid Chandio has been working as Research Fellow (RF) at Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI) since December 2016. Previously, he had joined IPRI as Assistant Research Officer (ARO) in October 2007. He was then promoted as Research Officer (RO) in February 2013. Currently, he is also performing his duties as “Focal Person Research”, looking after research and coordination work at IPRI. Before joining IPRI, he worked in different capacities, i.e. Media Analyst and Junior Analyst in the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Pakistan, which gave him practical insight in the research and analysis fields. He is a Near East South Asia-NESA ALUMNUS from Center for Strategic Studies, National Defense University (NDU), Washington, D.C., USA. He has extensively travelled and participated in workshops, roundtables/closed moots, conferences, and dialogues/plenaries in many countries, including the UK, Italy, China, Turkey, Jordan, Oman and Morocco.

His research focuses on “Security and Defence” with particular emphasis on Traditional Security, Non-Traditional Security, Threat Assessment, Land Security, Non-state Actors, Refugees and Migration, Terrorist Organisation, Counter Terrorism, Counter Insurgency, International Law, and International Humanitarian Law. Besides, his geographical area includes the United States of America (USA) and China.

He has to his credit numerous research papers, co-authored “Introduction” chapters and book reviews. Khalid regularly contributes Op-eds/articles on current strategic issues in English dailies/online source of Pakistan/abroad. Apart from research and analysis, he has a plenty of hands-on experience of editing/proof reading. He had remained Assistant Editor of IPRI Journal (HEC recognized ‘X’ category, refereed and internationally indexed Journal) and IPRI Fact-File. He remained Editor IPRI Web-site and IPRI Newsletter, and also a Co-editor of IPRI Books.

Khalid has over a decade experience in “Research and Analysis” field primarily and event coordination/management, i.e. holding national and international Seminar/Conferences/Dialogues/Workshops, conducting delegations, report writing, and making of press releases. He holds certificate on “Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methodologies” in a workshop conducted by Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), Islamabad on 13-14 December 2017. He is an avid reader.

He is pursuing his PhD in International Relations-IR from School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR), Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad. He holds MPhil in International Relations-IR and MSc in Defence and Strategic Studies (DSS) from the same university.
