The Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI), together with the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF), Germany’s Pakistan office in Islamabad, organized a two-day international conference on “Pakistan’s Strategic Environment: Post-2014” at Serena Hotel, Islamabad on 28-29 May 2014.
IPRI invited seven scholars one each from China, France, Germany, India, Russia, Singapore and Sweden. They presented their papers in various sessions of the conference. Another seven prominent scholars, professionals and intellectuals from within Pakistan also spoke at the conference. The proceedings of the conference will be published in the form of a book by IPRI.
The conference focused on four working sessions, i.e., Post-2014 Afghanistan: Implications for Pakistan; Global Perspective of Post-2014 Pakistan; Regional Dynamics; and the Way Forward. Apart from these sessions, there were two more sessions, i.e., inaugural and concluding sessions. Ambassador Syed Triq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, graced the occasion as a Chief Guest in the inaugural session and delivered his keynote address. In concluding session, General (R) Ehsan ul Haq, Former Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, was the Chief Guest, he also delivered his keynote address.
